An agenda was published this past Friday for the Town Board meeting this Tuesday, May 28. The agenda item relating to STRs is: “Set Date for STR Meeting in Summer”
To have an influence on when this meeting is set, so that you can attend and have your voice heard/share your perspective, please plan to attend tomorrow’s meeting.

Fortunately, Jacksonport has always had a positive approach to STRs, so let’s do all we can to keep it that way.
Please be respectful in your communication during the meeting. If we want to influence town leaders, we need to hear their concerns, dispel fact vs. fiction, and ask questions to understand what problem is being solved.
State law allows towns to set minimum rental periods to 6 nights. Given many tourists want shorter stays recently, if a town takes an anti-STR stance, they have the legal authority to significantly impact your ability to rent. So let’s work in partnership with the town to address any concerns vs. becoming adversaries.
Background:
After the agenda was published a follow-up call to the town board chair, Tom Wilson, was made. He indicated they have not been having problems with STRs. However, since they get regular calls from Realtors to see if they have a licensing process and when the town says no, the realtors say “good, since those buying a home they wish to rent prefer towns without licenses.” (Not helpful.)
Tom has always said he felt the town had sufficient regulations to deal with any STR issues and didn’t feel separate regulations were needed. And he’s said setting STR licensing can divide a town. Let’s ask why he is exploring other options now.
There can be misperceptions that licensing is a revenue opportunity for local towns but WI state law indicates towns can only cover costs, not make a profit from fees.
