Jacksonport Town Hall (3365 County Rd, V. Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235)

The Jacksonport Plan Commission has decided to review the feedback from the July public meeting on STRs and whether or not an STR ordinance is warranted. Here is the agenda.

The meeting will not be available via Zoom, so we need STR owners to attend the meeting, given a small group of residents and second homeowners will be present, and we need the voice of STR owners to be present so the Plan Commission hears both perspectives. (We advocated for Zoom access and were told that it will not be allowed.)

We have learned that the residents/second homeowners will be proposing restrictions, potentially a 6-night minimum rental and owner-occupied requirements. Although the plan commission is not likely to recommend ordinance elements this severe, it’s important to have them hear from us—that we are good neighbors and aren’t having issues with our neighbors. Our question is, “What problem are we solving?”

It makes a difference, as it did at the July Public Meeting, for the Plan Commission members to see us as reasonable people who share their love of the area, just as they do, vs. the inconsiderate, party-hosting, bad neighbors that the small band of residents/second homeowners want to paint us as.

We will send talking points prior to the meeting. Here is the handout we developed for the public meeting. Be sure to see the data we developed on page two. We’ll add relevant information, such as the average rental period being 4 nights, so a 6-night restriction would shut down opportunities for visitors to stay in Jacksonport.

Action Items:

1. Please let us know if you are able to attend in person. Send an email to hello@homehosts.org.
