The Future of STRs in Door County is in your Hands …

Home Hosts (HH) has been able to successfully work with several local boards for fair STR ordinances. Check out the infographic for a list of accomplishments that as a group we are proud of.

Update on STR Ordinances

Baileys Harbor: The Town Board considered imposing an owner occupied, 6 night minimum from the start of one guest to the next guest for allSTRs but with HH member input they only applied that to new licenses and grandfathered in existingSTR’s.

Sister Bay: The Plan Commission proposed a veryrestrictive ordinance but due to Home Hostsrallying STR owners to attend meetings andeducating them on the impact of the proposal, theTown Board eliminated the majority of therestrictions. Unfortunately, they have

enacted a $1,500 per year licensing fee based on hiring staff to enforce their ordinance and purchasing software to automate licensing.

Liberty Grove: The Plan Commission recommended hyper STR restrictions, however, the Board heard the perspective of HH members and approved anSTR ordinance that grandfathered in existing STRs.New STRs will only be allowed to rent 180 days per year.

Sevastopol: The board’s orientation continues to be anti-tourism. Their updated ordinance requires new licenses to be owner occupied if they are less than seven nights.

Village of Egg Harbor: HH was invited to a working session with the Plan Commission and dispelled many myths related STRs in the village. Many restrictions under consideration were removed after this session. The town still wishes to keep the volume of STRs in residential areas constant and is considering new license restrictions in those areas but currently existing STRs are planned to be grandfathered in.
